If you're a seasoned cruiser, you've probably noticed that your mini fridge inside your cabin simply does not get very cold... If you're a first-time cruiser, listen up!
You fill your mini fridge up with water bottles, maybe throw a few sodas in there or some alcohol, but even after 24 hours, your drink of choice is barely warmer than room temperature. What gives?
The problem stems from a significant lack of air flow around your mini fridge. Cruise lines hide the mini fridges within the cabin's storage cabinets/drawers because let's face it, unless we're talking about a super expensive luxury mini fridge, they're aesthetically unpleasing. The result = hidden mini fridges that don't do their jobs!
Luckily, there's a very simple hack to boost the cool in your mini fridge - Towel Clips:
- Step 1: Pick one towel clip to be your designated "Fridge Booster".
- Step 2: Open the cabinet door that's hiding your mini fridge.
- Step 3: Clip the Fridge Booster in the location shown below:
That's it! By preventing the cabinet door from closing completely, you increase the air flow around the mini fridge therefore allowing it to do it's job: COOL.
I personally put this theory to the test on my last cruise. I brought a mini thermometer /humidity gauge with me and placed it inside the mini fridge. On the first night, prior to adding a Fridge Booster, the temperature inside the mini fridge was 63.6 degrees F. As you can see, the inside temperature of the mini fridge dropped by adding a Fridge Booster and continued to as days went by.
So there you have it! A simple hack to get your cruise cabin's mini fridge to actually cool. I'm sure you could use this hack for hotel mini fridges as well!
